Kitchener stitch quick reference

Kitchener stitch is a method of grafting two sets of live stitches together in knitting with a darning. It’s easy, but I do it so infrequently, I always forget the method. Here’s a simple reminder of the steps.

Set up

  1. Insert on front as if to purl. Leave stitch on needle.
  2. Insert on back as if to knit. Leave stitch on needle.

Now repeat this

  1. Insert on front as if to knit. Remove stitch from needle.
  2. Insert on front as if to purl. Leave stitch on needle.
  3. Insert on back as if to purl. Remove stitch from needle.
  4. Insert on back as if to knit. Leave stitch on needle.

Finish

Gently pull through and weave in.
