Floral indigo dress

A few years ago, I sewed a cat print Indigo dress. It’s a favourite, and I wear it often. It’s comfortable and cute and I love it, but weirdly, I only sewed that pattern once. This summer, I wanted a new dress for an occasion, so I made myself a new Indigo.

I got this pretty rayon from Sewcialising when I worked there during my career break. I’d been staring at it every Saturday for months, and finally pulled the trigger on my last day. Then, as is tradition, I let it mature in a cool dark place for around 18 months before cutting into it.

After all that waiting, I actually wasn’t crazy about sewing with it. It looks like a stable fabric but then it sneakily shifts on you when you’re not looking. But it sure is pretty, and thankfully I have plenty of pins to wrangle it with.

Construction wasn’t as smooth as it should have been. I kept sewing after work when my brain wasn’t switched on. The exposed ruffle seams were a nightmare - it wasn’t the pattern’s fault, or the fabric - I just somehow made a hash of all three of them and had to do a lot of rework. They worked out fine in the end, but I definitely took the scenic route getting there.

The end product is delightful, comfy to wear, and will hopefully be as long serving as its feline sister.
